Mermix

THE CHALLENGE

Mermix’ mission is to improve the agricultural world by connecting farmers and help them organize and exploit better their assets. Mermix’ vision is to meet farmer needs through the creation of services, products and activities which emerge from systemic and holistic approach of the field and rural areas.

Now, the first version of the mermix web app is online and farmers can easily upload their content, search for machinery and also become members. Furthermore, with FIWARE mermix can easily suggest farmers machinery according to their location and their previous preferences.

THE SOLUTION

Mermix is a new, innovative web service that has multiple purposes and goals; the most important of all is that it provides the rural community, such as farmers (small, medium or professionals) the opportunity to easily reach and access agricultural machinery and check their availability through the web.

The idea behind mermix was born due to the daily interaction with Stevia Hellas Coop‘s farmers, which led to the conclusion that a large number of unexploited machineries exist while at the same time a big number of farmers have the problem of machinery lack. Then we realized that in order to meet the need of farmers to reach farm machinery with an easy way, without facing the problems of communicating with several people and losing valuable time for doing this procedure, a new innovative service should be established that solves these major issues and provides them easy online access.

So, mermix has the purpose to bring in communication both sides and skip the lengthy process. The renter or the owner will reach the site and they will fulfill their expectations and needs within some minutes by a very quick and easy process.

WHY FIWARE

FIWARE was the best choice to make, since mermix’ scope was to provide farmers with the appropriate technology tools in order to complete their agricultural work successfully.

Being a company that always tries to develop the best services, mermix was selected to be funded from Fractals Consortium.

We, as a company, are very happy to participate in a European program, since it has been providing us with the best services and knowledge that we would never acquire faster.

Last but not least, we were funded for building our service with only prerequisite to integrate FIWARE tools, which came natural since it was already in our list. We gained access to global opportunities, we increased our knowledge and became better in many aspects.

Since FIWARE has been integrated, farmers can find a tool based on their location! This feature has saved a lot of time for them, since searching can be difficult some times. Furthermore, FIWARE helped us propose agricultural tools (machinery) based on user location and his search activity, build a mechanism for the suggestion of the optimum period for the use of an agricultural tool and also create a weather widget with the forecast of the weather for the user location
